About Hindu Calendar

Hindu Calendar shows today's Panchang — the five traditional elements of Tithi, Vara, Nakshatra, Yoga, and Karana — alongside the Vikram and Shaka Samvat years and a list of upcoming Hindu festivals.

How the Panchang is calculated

The values shown are computed using standard low-precision astronomical formulas for the sun and moon's position at the current moment, corrected to the sidereal zodiac using the Lahiri ayanamsa. This is different from most printed Panchangs, which anchor the day's Panchang to your local sunrise. Near a transition point, our values may show the next Tithi or Nakshatra slightly earlier or later than a Panchang computed for your exact location.

Vikram and Shaka Samvat

We show both major Hindu calendar eras: Vikram Samvat (lunar-based, popular in North India) and Shaka Samvat (solar-based, used in India's official National Calendar). Both are approximated by rule and can shift by a day around their respective new year.

Festival dates

Festival dates listed are sourced and verified for the current year, since Hindu festivals follow the lunisolar calendar and don't fall on a fixed Gregorian date each year. Regional traditions sometimes observe festivals a day apart — see our disclaimer.
